Public Participation Requested for Downtown Toledo Master Plan

Public Meeting January 19; “Storefront” Display in Toledo Edison Building

TOLEDO, Ohio, Jan. 14, 2016 – Downtown Toledo workers, residents and visitors can participate in the continued growth and development of the Downtown neighborhood by being a part of the 22nd Century Committee’s development of a Master Plan for Downtown Toledo.

The first of several public meetings will be held Tuesday, January 19, in the McMaster Family Center of the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library’s Main Library, 325 Michigan St., in Downtown Toledo. Day-1-16_editDoors open at 5:00 p.m., with a presentation at 5:30 and open house activities from 6:15 to 7:30.

In addition, the group has created a “storefront office” adjacent to the Downtown Toledo Improvement District (DTID) office and next to Kyoto Ka restaurant in the Edison Building downtown. This interactive display asks for written comments from visitors about a number of questions:

  • I will do better in Toledo because:
  • My vision for Downtown Toledo is:
  • I wish Downtown Toledo was better at:

Day-1-8Volunteers will staff the space, beginning January 20, on Wednesdays and Fridays during lunchtime. The public is invited to visit for an update on planning, or anytime or to offer their own ideas.

“It’s critical that this process include the unique, valuable perspective of people already contributing to our Downtown Toledo neighborhood,” said Cindy Kerr, executive director of DTID. “These workers, residents and visitors have made a significant impact on where our neighborhood is today, and have a critical stake in the area’s future. These people live and work here, and can provide real insights on the Downtown of today and tomorrow.”

The 22nd Century Committee, a public-private partnership of 27 local government, business, nonprofit, labor and education leaders, was created to bring together the many plans for Downtown development into a single, comprehensive master plan.
